Healthy People 2020 plan: cut child obesity, help adults sleep

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- A new report from the Institute of Medicine offers an outline to improve the health of Americans over the next decade.

The report's recommendations lists 12 health issues that should be priorities for the Healthy People 2020 plan including mental health, access to care, chronic disease and substance abuse.

It identifies 24 objectives that set clear goals for physicians and policy makers, like increasing the proportion of people with a primary care doctor and cutting pregnancy rates among teens.

Other goals: reducing the number of days with a poor air quality index, curtailing childhood obesity, increasing the proportion of adults who get enough sleep.
