Fog gives way to heavy rain on Friday night

Dense fog will continue throughout Friday. The fog will go away on Friday night, but heavy rain and stiff winds will arrive in its place.

As of 2 p.m. on Friday, rain fall totals range from nothing along the Jersey Shore to 0.51" in Upper Deerfield Township. The main story for much of our area, though, has been the fog. Visibility under a quarter of a mile have been reported, making driving and boating hazardous.

Rain will be off and on through 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. Then, a period of heavy rain will move from the shores of the Delaware Bay to LBI and continue for the rest of Friday night. A rumble of thunder will not be ruled out as well. Totals between three quarters to a inch and a quarter of rainfall are expected after the final drops fall.

Following the rain, a potent shot of cold air will punch into South Jersey. Temperatures will fall all throughout the day on Saturday. By sunset, the thermometer will hover around freezing, crashing into the low teens by Sunday morning. The combination of rainfall and drop to below freezing temperatures should not cause any flash freeze issues, though.

Temperatures will then fail to rise above freezing from Sunday through Thursday. Snow returns to the forecast for Tuesday night into Wednesday.
