Discovery prepares Hindi entertainment channel for launch

Discovery India has confirmed it will launch its Hindi entertainment channel JEET on 12 February, going head-to-head with broadcasters Star, Sony Pictures Networks, Zee and Viacom18’s Colors. With 1,000 hours of original fiction content planned, shows confirmed for Discovery JEET include: Ajay Devgn Films’ 85 episode series Swami Ramdev: The Untold Story; Contiloe Productions’ series 21 Sarfarosh: Saragarhi 1897 about the plight of 21 Sikh soldiers; and Lotus Talkies Productions’ supernatural TV series Anjaan. Other programmes include the Rohan Sippy-produced detective series Khan No.1; Mere Papa Hero Hiralal and Man vs Wild with Sunny Leone.

Bollywood star Nawazuddin Siddiqui is voicing the advertisements for Discovery’s premium Hindi entertainment channel, which has adopted #Hai Mumkin Brandfilm for its marketing campaign.

Entering the entertainment genre is part of Discovery Communications India’s strategy to make its presence known in another 100 million of India’s TV homes, from its current reach of 20 million homes for its infotainment and lifestyle channels. It also aims to make Discovery Kids one of the top three children’s channels in India by the end of 2018.

Discovery JEET will be available from 12 February on subscription based pay-TV networks, replacing the Investigation Discovery channel. Vijay Cable will distribute all Discovery channels in India.
